What makes The Jacobite distinctive?

The line leaves Fort William for Glenfinnan before threading towards the west coast and the fishing harbour at Mallaig. The viaduct is an important moment, but the smaller changes between mountain, village and shoreline give the outing its character. Allow time to look around the departure station and use the scheduled Mallaig interval for an unhurried harbour walk. The return gives a second perspective on the route. Steam is the intention, although weather, fire precautions or locomotive problems can lead to a diesel substitute.
