The journey in perspective
What makes Flåm Railway distinctive?
The railway follows a steep valley setting through tunnels and open sections, with the changing height providing much of its drama. The operator advertises a short stop at Kjosfossen waterfall before the journey reaches Myrdal. A simple return lets you see the valley from both directions, while a one-way plan needs a confirmed onward connection. Keep enough time in Flåm to enjoy the waterside setting independently. A fjord cruise, cycling descent or walking package is an additional choice, not an automatic part of an ordinary railway ticket.
Accommodation, service levels and life on board
This is not an overnight sleeper service. Compare the exact seating or service class, dining arrangements and accessibility of the chosen carriage. Any hotel nights in a wider package are separate from accommodation aboard the train.

Dining and the daily rhythm
The operator offers a separately pre-ordered lunch pack collected at Myrdal's Café Rallaren during its opening season. Check ordering deadlines and departure compatibility. Ordinary train tickets should not be assumed to include lunch, and winter catering arrangements may differ from summer.
Tell us about dietary requirements when you inquire. Included beverages, special menus and the pace of off-train visits should be confirmed for the exact departure.
How to plan this journey well
Choose a return excursion or an onward rail connection before purchasing. The timetable varies seasonally, and the operator directs combined Flåm and Bergen Railway journeys to the relevant through-booking service. Reserve a suitable departure, allow time at Myrdal and check luggage arrangements. Do not assume cruise arrivals guarantee space on a particular train.
Who will enjoy it most?
Norwegian fjord visitors, first-time scenic rail travellers and independent touring holidays.
Accessibility and individual needs
Ask about boarding assistance and wheelchair arrangements for the exact departure and any connection at Myrdal.
Share mobility needs, luggage concerns and any important personal requirements before paying a deposit. We will request the relevant details; an inquiry is not a guarantee that a particular request can be accommodated.
