El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo

El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo follows Spain’s green northern coast between Santiago de Compostela and San Sebastián. Original 1920s Pullman lounge cars and just 14 suites create an intimate base for a week of Galician, Asturian, Cantabrian and Basque culture.

Signature geography

Santiago de Compostela–San Sebastián along Spain’s northern coast

Why choose this train?

Belle Époque northern Spain—with the details made clear.

The train travels while guests are awake and normally remains stationary overnight, reducing the movement that can disturb sleep on conventional sleepers. Days combine guided visits, coastal scenery, museums, historic towns and regional meals. A luxury coach accompanies the train for excursions.

Cabins and suites

Accommodation varies materially by category. Our specialists compare floor space, bed configuration, private bathroom facilities, daytime seating and storage rather than relying only on the cabin name. We will explain the meaningful differences before you make a decision.

  • Gran Lujo Suite

Dining and onboard life

Gastronomy is a major part of the route, with selected meals in respected regional restaurants as well as breakfast and dining on board. There is no rigid formal dress code; comfortable daywear and smart evening clothes are appropriate.

Dining style, dress expectations and included beverages can differ by route or cabin. Ask us to confirm what applies to your chosen departure so the onboard experience meets your expectations.

  • Only 14 spacious suites
  • Galicia to the Basque Country
  • Dining ashore and on board
  • Train remains stationary overnight

Practical planning

Renfe’s 2026 season includes the full eight-day route in both directions and selected shorter journeys. The program includes scheduled visits, many meals and transfers, while bar purchases, laundry and personal expenses are normally additional.

Accessibility and individual requirements

Renfe states that its historic luxury tourist trains are not wheelchair-accessible internally. A traveler who uses a wheelchair only off the train may be able to travel with an assisting companion, subject to advance confirmation.

Please share mobility, dietary, medical or celebration requirements at the inquiry stage. We will identify what can be requested and what must be confirmed before booking.

Best suited for

Food-and-culture travelers who want northern Spain at a measured pace with settled nights and a small guest list.

If you are comparing this train with another exceptional journey, email us what matters most—privacy, scenery, culinary experience, culture, pace or cabin comfort—and we will help narrow the choice.
