Pullman Cabins offer a daytime sofa that becomes upper and lower berths at night. State Cabins place both sleepers at floor level, making them worth considering when ladder access is inconvenient or two companions prefer lower beds. Both belong to the same Malaysian journey and share the train's main social spaces; the upgrade is not a change of route.
Presidential Suites provide additional room and category-specific benefits. All accommodation types have private en-suite facilities, so privacy in the bathroom is not reserved for the largest suite. Ask for the confirmed night-time layout and consider how much private sitting space you will use after excursions. Photographs of a spacious Presidential room should not set expectations for the much more compact Pullman.

Food, dining and the daily rhythm
Published itineraries include daily meals, afternoon tea, selected house wines, spirits and local beer, with premium drinks and cabin orders potentially additional. Chef André Chiang’s culinary direction brings a contemporary Southeast Asian lens. Smart evening attire suits the setting; breathable fabrics are valuable for humid excursions.
Malaysian influences and contemporary menus
The dining programme interprets Malaysian ingredients through contemporary cooking, with separate lunch, dinner and vegetarian sample menus. Its appeal is variety: the operator presents dishes drawing on several culinary traditions, not one fixed national set menu. The restaurant cars create a more dressed setting than the relaxed observation space, while the bar offers cocktails with regional botanical influences.
An in-room menu is also published, but availability is different from inclusion in the fare. Confirm which wines, spirits and cabin orders are covered and whether a themed culinary departure has a distinct programme. A named culinary curator does not mean that person cooks on every ordinary journey. Food restrictions should be discussed before travel, including meals connected with the Malaysian excursions.
