The journey in perspective
What makes Bergen Railway distinctive?
Leaving Oslo, the train progresses through inland communities and mountain country before the route turns towards western Norway and Bergen. Myrdal is an important connection point for the separate Flåm Railway, but breaking the journey there requires a deliberate ticket and timetable plan. Choose a daytime departure if scenery is the priority, and keep the day largely free for the rail crossing. Vy also operates night products, which are different bookings and should not be confused with the seating-focused experience described here.
Accommodation, service levels and life on board
This is not an overnight sleeper service. Compare the exact seating or service class, dining arrangements and accessibility of the chosen carriage. Any hotel nights in a wider package are separate from accommodation aboard the train.
- Standard daytime seating
- Plus daytime seating
- Family seating or private daytime compartment when offered
Dining and the daily rhythm
Vy advertises an onboard café for the Oslo–Bergen journey. Food purchases and the inclusions of particular seating categories should be checked separately. Some benefits can depend on class, but an ordinary daytime ticket is not a promise of a fully included meal programme.
Tell us about dietary requirements when you inquire. Included beverages, special menus and the pace of off-train visits should be confirmed for the exact departure.
How to plan this journey well
Confirm the exact daytime departure, seat category and current traffic notices before committing to connections. The operator describes a direct journey of around seven hours, although individual schedules vary. Book any Flåm Railway connection separately or as a clearly specified through itinerary. Night-train beds and pods are outside this daytime journey description.
Who will enjoy it most?
Independent Norway itineraries and travellers who prefer a scenic rail transfer to flying between cities.
Accessibility and individual needs
Request current boarding assistance and accessible seating for the exact Vy departure.
Share mobility needs, luggage concerns and any important personal requirements before paying a deposit. We will request the relevant details; an inquiry is not a guarantee that a particular request can be accommodated.
